The “Motherland Monument” is referred to both as a symbol of the lost struggle for Kyiv’s historical landscape and as one of the finest examples of
monumental sculpture in the world. Some consider it appropriate to remove it, while others insist it should remain.
The installation of the Ukrainian trident and the possible renaming to “Ukraine–Mother” represent a step toward rethinking history.
